  • Dedicated to Bart, who had the Most Beautiful Tail

It's very simple. Dogs and cats and other talented animals have tails; their tails, with their thousands of flourishes, provide them with a wonderfully complex language of arabesques, not only for what they think and feel and suffer, but for every mood and vibration in their feeling tone. We have no tails, and since the more lively among us need some form of expression, we make ourselves paintbrushes and pianos and violins..." _Hermann Hesse

Sunsets & Contented Canines

As I was taking the dogs out for their after-dinner break yesterday evening I saw that we were about to have a glorious sunset. I alerted Moe and we both went out with our cameras to take photos. This first one is the beginning.

And about five minutes later…

I figured the dogs would be inside wondering where we were and anxious to find us. But they’d found their own form of entertainment.

Two more companionable canines could not be found. Denali has not been known to allow another dog the luxury of chewing a prized nylabone in her presence – until Sage.

No, they were not posed. This is a candid shot. (Which I shouldn’t have tried without flash.)

  1. Lovely sunset photos — and huggable dogs.

  2. The last photo is great, flash or not!
