  • Dedicated to Bart, who had the Most Beautiful Tail

It's very simple. Dogs and cats and other talented animals have tails; their tails, with their thousands of flourishes, provide them with a wonderfully complex language of arabesques, not only for what they think and feel and suffer, but for every mood and vibration in their feeling tone. We have no tails, and since the more lively among us need some form of expression, we make ourselves paintbrushes and pianos and violins..." _Hermann Hesse

Farewell Sweet Blaze

On October 14, 1997 these two pretty sisters were born. Whelped at Trust ‘n Luck Kennel in Palmer, Alaska, they are the offspring of C-Myste’s venerable “Juneau” and Julie’s sister, Jewel.

Kenai (left) was our very first Cardigan. Blaze (right) went to live with some lovely people that also live in our area here in N. California. Sadly, we lost Kenai way too soon to a terrible accident in 2003 when a power line separated from a pole and fell into our backyard.

This morning her beautiful sister traveled over Rainbow Bridge after a struggle with Cushing’s Disease. We are heartbroken for Blaze’s family and wish them our deepest condolences. Travel safely Blaze. Kenai will be there to meet you. Remember, we love you both forever!

These photos were taken just a few days after their second birthday, in the company of their handsome father. They were sweet young girls, full of life.  And this is how I shall always choose to remember them!

  1. Oh how very sad. Isn’t Blaze Max’s big sister? I want to say I’ve met her, haven’t i? I love the pictures of the girls together – and better yet the one with papa Juneau too! Safe Travels Blaze – you were a good good girl!!

  2. Tears again . . . Thank you for the post.

    • Carolyn,

Yes, I was having a little trouble seeing as I posted this. It has been a difficult time losing so many beloved dogs recently. But our lives would have been so much less had we never known them at all! Thank you for all that you and Mandy have done for our Cardigan Family over the years!

  3. Traci,
You ARE correct! We are related to Blaze’s people through Denali and your Dakota also. They do have Max from that litter. Yes, you did meet Max’s dad when we celebrated the Baha/Trooper litter’s first birthday together.
